Where Derivatives Fail to Exist

Improvement on Teaching and Learning

Rather than just memorizing the special cases of when a derivative may fail to exist, students can really see different cases in which this happens.

Nontechnology Comparison

Teaching this concept with chalk and visual aids may bring the students closer to understanding why functions have points that may not be differentiable but not on the level a true animation can provide them.

Pertinent Issues

The animations are continuously repeating, but the functions cannot be changed. If you wish to try and change the function itself, you would need Mathematica to regenerate the animations.

How to use in the Classroom

The simplest and most efficient use of this module in the classroom is an in-class demonstration using a projection system. You can download the appropriate files onto a laptop or notebook computer if the classroom does not have Internet access. If downloaded on the laptop, the browser will still be able to view the .html file even though the connection to the Internet is lost.
