Introduction to GPS

Faculty Technology Skills

Faculty will need basic computer skills, as well as the ability to navigate the Internet, download and extract files, and install plug-ins.

Student Technology Skills

Requirements are the same as faculty stated above.

Faculty Equipment

Faculty should have access to a capable computer and a fast Internet connection. If the module is to be used as part of a presentation, faculty should be comfortable in a "smart classroom" setting.

Student Equipment

Students will need access to computer workstations. An internet connection is desirable, but not absolutely necessary since the program can be downloaded and will play on the computer as a miniapplication.

Cost

No cost is associated with this module other than that associated with ordinary campus computing facilities; however, if individual GPS receivers are going to be used in student projects, then units will have to be purchased ($150 - $300 ea). It should be mentioned that there is no subscription cost to using the GPS system; once the receivers are obtained, using the system is free.
