Plant Physiology - Xylem Transport

Jason Fitzgerald
Southeastern Illinois College

Course

Biology 111, Introduction to Biology

Description

This module will help students better understand the process of xylem transport of water in plants and the factors affecting the transport. Students will track the flow of water through a plant using red dye and will measure the distance that the water travels through the plants under differing conditions (e.g., heat, air, light, absence of leaves). After obtaining the data, the students will use Microsoft Excel (or some other comparable spreadsheet program) to generate graphs that will compare the results from each condition. The students will interpret the graphs during class discussion.

Transferability

This module will transfer to any botany or horticulture class.
